An honest, no-pressure guide to what counselling actually is — and what to expect here.

You Don’t Have to Be in Crisis to Reach Out

One of the biggest things that keeps people from booking is the feeling that their problems aren’t “bad enough.”

They are.

You don’t need a diagnosis. You don’t need a breakdown. You don’t need to be at rock bottom.

If something feels heavy, confusing, stuck, or just not right — that’s enough.

Counselling isn’t only for emergencies. It’s for anyone who wants a real, honest space to figure out what’s going on and start moving differently.

What If Therapy Hasn’t Worked for Me Before?

That’s more common than you might think — and it usually comes down to fit.

Counselling isn’t one-size-fits-all, and not every approach works for every person. If you’ve had an experience that felt too rigid, too clinical, too passive, or just a bit off — I hear that.

The way I work is different by design. It’s easygoing, collaborative, and grounded in meeting you exactly where you are. No pressure to perform or get it right. No blank stares and nodding.

If something isn’t working for you, we talk about it and adjust. That’s part of the process.

What If I Don’t Even Know How to Explain What’s Wrong?

You don’t have to.

Most people who reach out don’t arrive with clear words or a tidy summary. They arrive with a feeling — something heavy, something off, something they can’t quite name.

That’s a completely fine place to start.

What Does a First Session Actually Look Like?

There’s no script and no right way to do it.

We start where you are. You share what feels most present — even if it comes out scattered or incomplete. We get a sense of what’s bringing you in, start noticing patterns or themes, and figure out what feels most useful to focus on.

You won’t be asked to relive everything from the beginning or put your whole history on the table. We work with what’s alive for you right now.

There’s no pressure to get it “right.” The first session is about getting started — not getting it perfect.

What Happens Between Sessions?

What we talk about doesn’t stay in the room.

Part of what makes this kind of counselling meaningful is what happens outside of it — how you start noticing things differently, what you stop tolerating, the small ways you respond differently in everyday moments.

That’s where real-life change actually happens.

If you’re an ongoing client, you can also add In-Between Session Support — a text-based option for staying connected between appointments.

Is This Confidential?

Yes. What you share in sessions stays between us, with a few specific legal exceptions that I’ll explain clearly before we begin.

Those exceptions exist to protect safety — they’re not about judgment or surveillance. You’ll always know what the boundaries are before we start.

Do I Need a Referral?

No. You can reach out directly to book a Discovery Consult — there’s no waitlist or referral required.

Will My Insurance Cover This?

Some extended health insurance plans include coverage for Registered Social Service Workers (RSSW). Coverage varies by provider and plan. It’s worth contacting your insurer directly to ask about eligibility and reimbursement.

Receipts are provided for all sessions.

Still not sure? That’s what the free Discovery Consult is for.

It’s 15 minutes, no commitment, and no pressure. Just a chance to connect, ask whatever’s on your mind, and get a sense of whether this feels like a fit.

You don’t have to decide anything on the call.
